After a local Los Angeles news station, ABC7, reported that someone stole a 4-year-old boy’s prosthetic leg, many people reached out to help.
Liam Brenes was enjoying his day at Crystal Cove State Beach in Orange County over the weekend (July 24) when someone stole his prosthetic leg. He left his leg in the sand so he could play in the water with his father.
“It’s upsetting. It makes me sad someone would do that,” Liam’s mother said. “It’s just heartless.”
Liam lost his right leg below the knee when he was one. He was born with a rare condition that resulted in the amputation.
“We were in the water for two hours,” Liam told the reporter. “And came back and everything was gone. They stole my leg.”
His story caught the attention of an important viewer, Robert Herjavec of “Shark Tank.”
The business mogul contacted ABC7 after the package aired and said that he was touched Liam’s story and wanted to purchase him a new prosthetic leg.
“It just broke my heart,” said Herjavec. “I mean, to think about what the little boy has gone through. And with everything that’s happening in the world and so much negativity, I just thought if I had the opportunity to make him grow up in an environment where he thinks there are some good people in the world, why not?”
In addition, Herjavec arranged a trip for Liam and his family to enjoy a day at Disneyland.
“I’ve spoken to the folks at ABC and Disney and we’re going to arrange to have him to a VIP tour of Disney and get to go to the park and have some fun in life because it’s good to have fun in life,” he continued.
