Ever seen Demi Lovato wear an outfit and think to yourself “I want that!” A couple years ago, fans had the opportunity to do just that. Demi teamed up with the Free The Children campaign—of which she is already an ambassador—and donated pieces of her wardrobe for fans to bid on. 100% of the proceeds went to Free The Children.
Free the Children works internationally to help children of any background achieve their highest potential. The charity educates, engages and empowers youth around the world to remove education barriers and break the poverty cycle. Demi’s donation specifically went to the charity’s Adopt a Village foundation, which helps the charity to empower communities to lift themselves out of poverty.
Her donation raised more than $15,000. One of the items up for bid was the beautiful Alexander Wang dress that Demi wore during her Skyscraper music video. Many of the fans felt this dress should stay with Demi, as they thought it was a great symbol of overcoming her battle with depression. Ultimately, Demi bought the dress back herself, donating $6,100 to the charity to keep the dress in her own possession.
Though the auction was two years ago, it’s relevant now because Demi is about to have another auction! More details will come soon, but the Demi Lovato Charity Boutique recently announced via Facebook that a new auction is set for some time this September. We can’t wait to find out more!
