Midlothian, Texas was the location of an attempted robbery on June 26 that didn’t end how most typically do.
Thanks to Daniel Gaskey, a former marine and current firefighter with the Mansfield Fire Department, what could have ended in tragedy was instead an occasion to celebrate justice. Gaskey explained how that early Friday morning went to CBS in an interview stating, “It’s 6:15 in the morning and you’re still trying to wake up to, you know. And then all of a sudden this guy is pushing me. I realized real quick what was going on. There’s only one reason people wear a black mask at a gas station.”
The security cameras caught all the footage of Gaskey at the counter including him being pushed away by a man in a ski mask, and then the take down that was prompted when the robber pulled out a knife. Though police officers encourage people in similar situation to not act unless they happen to have the kind of training Gaskey did, the hero of the day claims, “It’s just the right thing to do and that’s the reward in itself: the fact that you were able to help someone out.”
