It’s been over one year since a young Scottish boy with a rare disease asked for help from Iron Man, his favorite superhero. Now, Robert Downey Jr. is stepping up to answer the call to action.

Aaron Hunter is a 7-year-old boy from Alexandria, Scotland who suffers from ROHHAD syndrome: a rare and incurable disease that causes the person’s organs to malfunction and fail.

Back in 2017, the ROHHAD Association granted Aaron a wish that he used to ask for Iron Man’s help in raising awareness for the debilitating disease. The youngster then made a video for the charity organization’s social media page explaining his situation and calling the Hollywood star to action.

When the video went viral, Downey Jr. reached out to Aaron to see what he could do to help with the cause. In addition to raising awareness for ROHHAD syndrome on social media over the course of the last year, Downey Jr. made a video earlier this week that is bound to make a huge difference for the disease.

In the video, Downey Jr. says that his charity organization Random Act Funding will be holding a contest to raise money for ROHHAD syndrome research.

For every $10 donated to his Crowdrise campaign, contest participants will have a chance to attend the World Premiere of Avengers: Infinity War in Los Angeles with Downey Jr. on April 23rd.

Not only that, but the winner will be flown from anywhere in the world to Hollywood, California; stay for two nights at a four-star hotel; and be invited to the after party.

The contest ends on April 13th, so be sure to get those donations in soon.

A month after Tom Hardy initiated an online fundraiser for families affected by the Manchester Arena terrorist bombing, the actor is once again flexing his charity muscle.

Hardy is lending a hand to the victims of the Grenfell Tower fire in North Kensington, London by raising money through a JustGiving fundraising page.

“As a Londoner and as a human being, it is impossible to be unaffected by the harrowing, unnecessary loss of life, injury, sorrow and the continuing desperate and disturbing situation facing those that were residents of Grenfell Tower, Latimer Road West London,” Hardy wrote as part of a lengthy message on the page.

“It is impossible not to feel deep, profound shock and just stand by and not make the effort to help those who are innocent victims of a seemingly gross negligence,” he added.

Hardy didn’t go into detail as to what he meant by “gross negligence,” but he did demand that responsibility be taken for the fire, the cause of which is still under investigation.

“For me, culpability and accountability falls entirely on those responsible for providing secure, safe housing for those who live in public housing and the citizens/residents of the UK who are vulnerable,” he wrote, adding “This disaster feels like it could have been undoubtedly avoided. It is unacceptable in this day and age that men, women, and children are not safe in their homes – homes that are provided by public/social housing – because those homes were not adequately maintained to a correct and appropriate standard. It is shameful.”

As of this writing, at least 79 people are presumed dead, and dozens more are injured from the blaze which ripped through the 24-story high-rise apartment building in the early morning hours of June 14.

Hardy is targeting a goal of £50,000, and his page works in conjunction with a fund started by the charity, Kensington & Chelsea Foundation.

“My heart goes out to those who have lost their lives and their loved ones. My thoughts are with the innocent families who are suffering – those who have lost their homes and possessions, their friends, families, relatives, children and their lives in a disaster which could have been avoided,” he wrote.

Hardy isn’t the only celeb helping out as Adele, Simon Cowell, the Beckham family, and Rita Ora have all given back in some way shape or form.

New York City isn’t merely the place where Jerry Seinfeld lives, it’s a part of who he is and the legendary comedian joined his family in Central Park on Wednesday, May 31, for the 2017 GOOD+ Foundation NY Bash.

Founded by Seinfeld’s wife Jessica in 2001, GOOD+ to help families living in poverty through donated goods and services.

Set in Victorian Gardens at Central Park, the annual event, in its 11th year, marked the end of the school year with a carnival-style atmosphere and celebrity friends such as Melissa Joan Hart, Ali Wentworth, and David Burtka joined the Seinfeld’s in helping raise $600,000 for families in need.

“Our friends and sponsors who help make this afternoon possible are helping change lives because their support funds our work to build stronger families,” said Jessica Seinfeld.

“At GOOD+, we have learned that strengthening the entire family starts with helping the parents first, and the overwhelming success of Bash every year shows that New York City supports what we are doing, and that is truly inspiring,” she added.

Also present at the event were families from four GOOD+ networking sites – CUNY’s
Fatherhood Academy, Forestdale Inc., LSA Family Health Services, and STRIVE International. These programs provide training and support to low-income mothers and fathers, helping them become strong and stable caregivers for their children.

On June 10, 2016, the bright and beautiful light that was Christina Grimmie was distinguished. Although she’s no longer physically with us, her soul is still present through the Christina Grimmie Foundation.

Good Celebrity is more than just an outlet for positive news on your favorite stars but a showcase for the wonderful charities that, day in and day out, improve the condition of life for so many people.

The Christina Grimmie Foundation is one such charity and, much like the talent singer whose name it bears, it makes a profound impact on the world.

Who was Christina Grimmie?

Christina first gained notoriety thanks to her YouTube channel where she belted out Top 40 hits. Her talented pipes drew the attention of 3.8 million subscribers. In 2013, she released her debut studio album With Love and opened for Selena Gomez during the singer’s North American Tour.

All of that led to her biggest claim to fame as a contestant on Season 6 of the NBC singing competition, The Voice, where she picked Adam Levine as her mentor. Under his tutelage, Grimmie finished 3rd.

“That was probably one of the most defining moments of my life, for sure. I feel like I learned so much about myself as an artist, I feel like I grew up in a short amount of time. In a very good way,” she told us of her experience on the show in 2015.

“It definitely elevated me, I feel, in a professional way. I feel like people, you know, probably didn’t take me as seriously when I was just living on the YouTube space.” she said adding “The Voice kind of brought this level of professionalism to the table and I never really had that and the exposure was so widespread.”

Her career took off from there as she toured with Rachel Platten, collaborated with Sir Paul McCartney and other pop musicians on a song about global warming, prepared her next album, and made the aforementioned pit stop to the Good Celebrity offices.

During her visit, she answered Twitter questions from fans and graciously performed her song “With Love.”

Christina also gave us insight into her charitable work with City of Hope and The Humane Society.

“I am a huge dog lover,” said Grimmie who performed a cover of the Bonnie Tyler song “I Need a Hero” to raise money for the organization. “I just have a very soft spot for animals in general,” she added.

Following her tragic death, The Humane Society created an animal medical fund in Christina’s name and honored her at the organization’s “To the Rescue” benefit in Los Angeles with its Impact Award.

What is the Christina Grimmie Foundation?

In February 2017, the Grimmie family released “Invisible,” the first single from Christina’s posthumous EP, Side B.

“As an independent artist, Christina dreamed of a major record label distributing her music” read a statement from the family posted on Grimmie’s Twitter account. “That dream has COME TRUE for our dear angel…Universal Music Group, the world’s largest music company, will be releasing Christina’s new music under Republic Records.”

Proceeds from the purchase of the single went toward establishing a memorial fund in her name.

“As we have always known, Christina’s life was so very special, not only to us but to everyone she touched with her joyful heart, beautiful voice and love for life and the Lord,” the Grimmie family told People.

“Words cannot express what the many memorials, donations, and tributes shared by Christina’s fans and those in the media and entertainment industry mean to us. She will live on in our hearts forever. We will take our time in determining the best ways to honor Christina moving forward.”

From there The Christina Grimmie Foundation was born. A California-based non-profit benefit corporation, the foundation’s mission, according to the website, is “to provide financial, emotional and encouragement support to individuals and families who suffer from the devastating effects of gun violence; and support for families facing breast cancer diagnosis.”

Christina’s mother is a breast cancer survivor, so naturally fighting the disease was something close to her heart. Her love for her mom and willingness to do anything to support her, led to the family choosing the cause as a beneficiary of the foundation.

As for the decision to support families of gun violence, the Grimmie’s found out all too well the pain of losing a loved one on June 10 and knew it was the right choice to work with those recovering from similar tragedies.

“We as a family have a unique understanding of both of those. So we want others to feel the same support that we felt when we couldn’t think,” her father Bud told Access Hollywood. “That’s what we’re going to do to continue Christina’s legacy of helping others.”

Q by Pasquale

Reaching another avenue beyond music, the foundation raises money through purchases of the Pasquale footwear Q by Christina Grimmie.

Reaching another avenue beyond music, the foundation raises money through purchases of the Pasquale footwear Q by Christina Grimmie.

“Pasquale took a very big interest in her story, her personality and said ‘I think we can capture her with these shoes’,” said her brother Marcus.

The shoes feature a backward bass clef and a treble clef, which creates her initials “CG.”

“When I first saw the logo on the shoe, I was just like ‘Christina would love this,’” Marcus said. “Her and my dad kind of making that idea up together years ago and just kind of stuck with it. That was her logo.”

Living After Death

Perhaps the best person to sum up what the Christina Grimmie Foundation is all about is Christina herself.

On the homepage of the organization’s website is a quote from the singer which reads:

“People aren’t born strong. People grow stronger little by little, encountering difficult situations learning not to run from them.”

Her death, while tragic and far too soon, won’t be what defines Christina but a footnote in the long story of charity, philanthropy, and love that began while she was here and will continue long after her passing.

First Daughter Ivanka Trump recently passed on a tour for her new self-help book due to ethics concerns over her role in her father’s administration, but the entrepreneur announced that proceeds from the book would go to charity.

Trump revealed in a Facebook post on April 20 the establishment of the Ivanka M. Trump Charitable Fund, which will receive the unpaid portion of her advance and future royalties received from the book, titled Women Who Work: Rewriting the Rules of Success.

The National Urban League and Boys & Girls Clubs of America will be the first two beneficiaries of the fund, receiving $100,000 each.

“With my grant to the National Urban League, the organization will launch a new Women’s Initiative as part of its signature Entrepreneurship Center Program, which currently operates at 13 locations across the country,” Trump shared on Facebook.

“The Women’s Initiative will focus on giving women the mentorship and tools they need to start and grow successful businesses and achieve economic self-sufficiency,” she added.

Trump went on to share her plan for assisting in the STEM program and STEM Centers for Innovation within the Boys & Girls Club, with an aim to help females interested in careers in those that field.

“The grant to Boys & Girls Clubs of America will go toward the organization’s national Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) program for girls and underrepresented youth.

“Women make up half of the total U.S. college-educated workforce, but less than one-third of the STEM workforce,” she wrote.

Trump who recently made headlines while on a women empowerment tour in Germany, made it clear in the post that her book was a “personal project” and “completed before the election in November.” She closed her post by reiterating the pride in her book and her desire to see it help others.

“It is my sincere hope that Women Who Work serves as a powerful resource and that the book proceeds further benefit women and girls through the great work of the National Urban League and Boys & Girls Clubs of America,” she wrote.
