Social media users were outraged on Sunday when a Twitter video was released of a Chicago Cubs fan who seemed to be getting away with a dastardly deed – and even though it turned out to be a misunderstanding, the incident highlighted true sportsmanship in everybody involved.

The video, which was published by sports outlet Cut4, depicted a Cubs player tossing a baseball to a young boy in the stands. The ball hits the floor, rolls behind the little fan’s seat, and is then snagged by an older man in the row behind him.

The man can be seen handing the ball to his wife as the boy looks on, and despite it being an incriminating image, the situation is not how it seems.

Thinking that the boy’s foul ball had been stolen by another spectator, the youngster was later given another ball that was autographed by Javier Baez, the Cubs’ infielder.

The boy was then delighted to be the proud owner of two game balls… that’s right, two game balls.

While the Cubs’s kind gesture towards a young fan may have been heartwarming enough, several Twitter users came forward to elaborate on the older man’s actions.

Chuck Mycoff was one of the spectators who had been sitting next to the man throughout the game. He took to social media to say that even though the gentleman looked like he had been stealing a prized possession from a kid, he had been catching foul balls throughout the game so he could give them to youngsters sitting around them.

A few innings previously, the man had caught a foul ball and given it to the very boy who received the Baez autograph – hence why he ended up with two game balls.

After he handed the ball to his wife in the video, she took a photo of it and passed it to another young fan sitting on her right.

The testimony was backed up by Jeff Rose, another spectator who had been sitting close to the man.

So all-in-all, there was no bad guy in this story – just a lot of kind men encouraging a kid’s love of the game.

Billie Lourd repped her mom in the best dang way when she threw out the ceremonial first pitch at Friday’s match-up between baseball’s San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers.

The daughter of Carrie Fisher, who is a talented TV star in her own right, strode out onto the field with her hair formed into two distinctive buns. It wasn’t an exact recreation of her mom’s famed Princess Leia hair buns, but it was close enough to get the point across.

I’m not crying, you’re crying.

The 25-year-old Lourd took on the ceremonial first pitch duties as part of the game’s Star Wars Night festivities. As you can see, she also spent some time carousing on the field with a few other familiar faces.

Lourd rocked a similar ‘do when she appeared in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. She played Kaydel  Ko Connix, a Resistance officer, in what turned out to be her late mother’s final film. In her MLB appearance, Lourd sported a Dodgers jersey bearing her Force Awakenssurname — Connix — on the back.

Here she is on the Force Awakens set and in costume with Fisher.

Because it’s 2018 and nothing cool stays off the internet for long, Lourd took to social media after her baseball appearance to share some of the joy with her followers.

Also, I really need to get my hands on one of these amazing Old Lando bobbleheads.

How much would you pay to meet Anthony Rizzo? One fan, Rowena Zimmers, president of ALE Solutions, bid $11,000 for a meet-and-greet with the Cubs first baseman during Kerry Wood’s Winter Warm-Up charity night. The money goes to Wood’s Pitch In program to support a children’s program in North Lawndale.

That wasn’t the only big-ticket item. Another fan, Keith Macht, pledged $11,500 to have a bar custom-made for their basement and decorated to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Wood’s 20-strikeout game on May 6, 1998.

The bar will be hand-painted by artist John Hanley, built by two Marines and a former soldier, and delivered to Macht at spring training in Arizona, where he will transport it to Oxnard, Calif.

During Friday’s event at Harry Caray’s 7th Inning Stretch and Chicago Sports Museum at Water Tower Place, several celebrity bartenders served drinks to Cubs fans. The bartenders raised a record $11,000 in tips, with some fans paying for selfies with Rizzo and Kris Bryant.
