With so many country music awards per year, it’s hard to call the CMT Music Awards “country’s biggest night” but it’s certainly one of the big ones and on Wednesday night there were no bigger winners than Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood.
After racking up a combined total of zero wins at the Grammys and ACM Awards earlier this year, Urban swept his categories at CMT taking home four trophies including Video of the Year for “Blue Ain’t Your Color.”
“I love making music, I love making videos…who knows how long you get to do it,” said Urban, who also thanked his fans and wife Nicole Kidman.
“I’m just trying to make a connection,” he added.
Urban shared Collaborative Video of the Year with Underwood, and the duo took to the stage to perform their award winning song, “The Fighter.”
Combined with her victory for Female Video of the Year, Underwood increased her record-breaking total of career CMT wins to 17.
“Thank you God for so many incredible blessings that we have in our lives…we are so grateful and we are so blessed,” Underwood said, adding: “Go Preds.” Underwood is married to Mike Fisher of the Nashville Predators who are battling the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Stanley Cup Finals.
The ceremony took place at the Music City Center in Nashville and the enthusiasm for the hometown team was evident all night long.

“Reba McEntire just gave me an award so that’s pretty crazy,” Alaina said before thanking Jesus.
“I should have said that first. Sorry God.”
