Country music’s hottest stars came together on Sunday, April 2 for the 52nd annual Academy of Country Music Awards.
Singers Luke Bryan and Dierks Bentley hosted the ceremony, which featured lively performances (including a tribute to the late-Chuck Berry) and an atmosphere befitting of the event’s host city, Las Vegas.
Jason Aldean was the top winner of the night, taking home the hardware for Entertainer of the Year, while Miranda Lambert broke Reba McEntire’s record of Female Vocalist of the Year wins by notching her eighth victory in the category.
“I’m really so thrilled that I can still help lead the charge for women in this business at any level, songwriters, anybody behind the scenes, managers, whatever it is,” said Lambert, who also won Album of the Year.
“I’m just thrilled I can keep pushing forward and making a way for other women to do the same thing. I’m really humbled by it,” she added.
It took Aldean 11 years to earn the ACM top prize, and after winning it in 2016, he’s made it back-to-back wins in the category. Backstage he admitted he couldn’t have done it alone.
“It’s my name on that trophy,” he said. “But it’s a group award. There’s about 50 people who should have their name on it.”
Other victors included a stunned Thomas Rhett for Male Vocalist, Little Big Town for Vocal Group, Brothers Osborne for Vocal Duo, and Florida Georgia Line for Single Record of the Year. The popular group also brought the house down with a genre-mashing performance of “Everybody” alongside the Backstreet Boys.
