Dream it, Plan it, Practice it, Do it.
That’s the motto to which Joe Gagnon (SVP, GM of Aspect Software) lives his life and it’s a motto that the founder of The High Performance Life will put to use when he takes on his greatest physical (and mental) challenge yet.
On April 10, 2017, Gagnon will begin his quest to run six marathons on six continents in six days. Joe hopes the journey (which begins in Sydney, Australia) will promote a message that people are only “one thought” away from doing the improbable.
“We are stronger together, and we need to demonstrate, not just talk about, how we can create a better world for each of us,” Joe said in a statement.
From Sydney, Gagnon will travel to Singapore then Johannesburg, South Africa for the first half of the challenge. Marathon number four is in the English countryside followed by a trip to Sao Paulo. He’ll run his last 26.2 miles in Los Angeles, connecting six global communities and bringing his marathon of marathons to an end.
A lot of planning goes into the process, but Joe is keeping it as simple as possible.
“I am keeping it quite simple, a coach airline ticket, a pair of sneakers and a backpack, a few Clif bars, and some local support,” he said.
“Along the way, I will run 157 miles and log over 40,000 air miles with just an airplane seat for a daily respite. I am not exactly sure what I am going to find, but for sure it will be magical!” he added.
Gagnon is no stranger to physical accomplishments. Throughout his life he’s ran 27 marathons, 10 ultra-marathons, six Ironman triathlons and logged a combined 125,000 running and biking miles over the past 10 years.
In addition to his blog, The High Performance Life, Joe is a father to two daughters (Kimberly and Julianne) and serves as mentor and advisory board member of Chime In (The Change Is Me International), an “an international organization of Youth Ambassadors, ranging in age from 16-25.”
Some of the Chime In Youth Ambassadors will join Joe for meetings and mentoring sessions during his visit to their countries (they may even run beside him during his marathons).
Proceeds from Joe’s inspirational athletic adventure will go towards education for young people in developing countries. Those interested in making a donation can visit www.ChimeIn.org/ProjectBrightLight.
