When he’s not acting, Jesse Williams is using his celebrity platform to make a difference and give back to his community.
In his latest philanthropic act, the BET Humanitarian Award winner is making strides to help underprivileged students pay for college tuition. Through Williams’ partnership with app developer Scholly, students have quicker and easier access to available scholarship to fund continuing education.
Before pursuing his acting chops, Williams was a teacher, according to his Instagram post explaining his new venture.
The Grey’s Anatomy star will serve on the advisory board for Scholly. Their goal is to help kids “reach their full potential through education.”
On his Instagram, the actor shared, “Good students unable to continue their education simply because of money is a tragic reality that impacts us all.”
“There is no substitute for equal access. There is no substitute for a quality education,” he continued. “Scholly helps us get there, together… I had countless students forced [to] watch their own potential fade into memory simply because they weren’t born into the resources necessary to absorb a higher education.”
Scholly, which was featured on Shark Tank, has already provided more than $50 million in scholarships since its 2014 launch.
