Not surprisingly, the MTV Video Music Awards generated a lot of buzz-worthy moments on Sunday (August 28) but it’s a few of the charitable winners that are deserving of our Good Celebrity spotlight.
Fifth Harmony
Anti-bullying advocates, Fifth Harmony, took home two awards including the first “moon man” of the night, Song of Summer (for “All in My Head (Flex)”), which was announced on the pre-show red carpet.
“Harmonizers, we know you all been voting so much for us and it means the world…We love you so much,” said Ally Brooke to the group’s fan base, known as “harmonizers.”
Their second award was for Best Collaboration with Ty Dolla $ign on “Work From Home.”
Among their many good deeds, the ladies of Fifth Harmony are official ambassadors for tcyber bullyinging charity, Cybersmile.
DNCE
In addition to their accolades, Fifth Harmony presented DNCE with the award for Best New Artist.
“First and foremost, thank you so much to the fans all across the world, we love you guys so much,” said front man Joe Jonas. “We’ve been doing this for over ten years, individually, and to be up for an award for best new artist is just a constant reminder you continue to create and evolve,” he added.
When he’s not winning awards, the former Jonas Brothers singer is active in helping others. This past Christmas he teamed with the Queens Boys and Girls Club for JCPenney’s #GIVETUESDAY event and he and DNCE participated in the Unite4:Humanity charity event in February.
Drake
Proof that hard work and good will pay off, Drake’s video for “Hotline Bling” earned him Best Hip Hop Video. The Canadian rapper is active with charities such as Thorn and, in 2013, he teamed with The Game to donate over $22,000 to an Ohio who lost her family in a fire.
Coldplay
Finally, the always charitable and socially active group, Coldplay, earned the prize of Best Visual Effects for their video for their song “Up&Up.”
