Sometimes you’re just in the right place at the right time, and that was certainly the case for Oscar-winning actor Jamie Foxx.
On Monday night (January 18), Foxx came across a severe, single-car wreck and didn’t hesitate to get out and help. According to a report from California Highway Patrol Officer Marco Marin, Brett Kyle, 32, drove his Toyota Tacoma off a road in Ventura County, California and rolled over multiple times in a drainage ditch.
Once the truck stopped rolling, it landed on its passenger side and caught fire. Kyle was still inside. Foxx started to pull Kyle out of the burning car.
He told local news station KCAL, “As I’m getting him out, I said, ‘You’ve got to help me get you out because I don’t want to have to leave you.’ I said, ‘You’ve angels around you.’”
“I don’t look at it as heroic. I just look at it as … you just had to do something,” Foxx continued. “It all worked out.”
Ventura County Fire Department spokesman Capt. Mike Lindberry told CNN that when crews arrived about one minute later, the truck was fully engulfed in flames. Thanks to Foxx’s efforts, Kyle successfully got out of the vehicle and was taken to the hospital with burn injuries
“It was a pretty courageous thing to do,” Lindbery said about Foxx’s rescue. “It’s rare these days that you find someone willing to jump in to help like that.”
On Tuesday (January 19), Foxx met Kyle’s father and shared a heartwarming photo of the pair in an embrace.
“This is all that matters. That a man, a son, a brother’s life was spared last night,” he wrote with the post.
“I think we all hope that we can do something when the time is there. But the question is do we act or do we fear our own lives, and he did not,” Brad Kyle, the father, told the press. “[Foxx] was here when he needed to be here. He was here for my son. And as far as I am concerned, he saved his life.”
According to medical reports, Kyle suffered major head, check, neck and waist trauma. He was also arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. The California Highway Patrol’s Moorpark Area Office is currently investigating the accident.
