When we turn on the television, open up our newsfeed and talk to others, it seems like we get slapped in the face with negative content more often than good content. The nightly news focuses on war, hardships and political strife and many friends deal with the stress of life, turning them into Debby Downers.
Valerie Mosley took note of these negativities and founded Heart Beings, a hub for inspirational messages.
“Most of us think with our heads,” she said in a promotional YouTube clip. “What if we learn to connect with what’s in our hearts.”
HeartBeings.com is an empowering website that houses articles, podcasts, interviews and motivational messages. People doing amazing acts to help others around the world inspires all the content on Heart Beings.
The team categorizes its content into sections including educate, entertain and empower. There is something for everyone on Heart Beings. The team creates original content on topics ranging from getting a new look for the New Year to how listening to music can improve your life.
Plus, the various mediums like videos and podcasts make it the perfect pick-me-up option for audiences on the go.
Heart Beings is more than a fabulous content source; it’s also a way to live. According to the website, a Heart Being is a dreamer that aims to achieve their desires by aligning their actions with their heart.
Also, Heart Beings:
- Love and accept themselves unconditionally and let their inner light shine.
- Take care of and invest in themselves, and then do the same for others.
- Believe in and listen to their inner knowing.
- Forgive themselves and others for mistakes, letting go of resentment.
- Discover themselves, their core values and deep desires and what nurtures or wilts their spirit.
- Give, help and add value to their community.
- Hear, honor and heed heart desires, saying no to what doesn’t feel right and yes to what does. A Heart Being dares to dream and then carries out those dreams, aligning their actions with their heart desires to create inner peace and joy.
Dan Lothian, a former TV news and White House correspondent at NBC and CNN, is a member of the Heart Beings team and talked with Good Celebrity about the dynamic organization and how to become a Heart Being.
Good Celebrity: Why did Val start Heart Beings?
Dan Lothian: Our CEO Val Mosley was inspired by her grandmother, Rose, to share empowering messages. After a successful career in finance, she launched Heart Beings to make a different kind of impact. Along with social impact entrepreneur Niaz Karim, the three of us built the site with a great team.
As a longtime newsman, I was often asked ‘why we always focused on negative news.’ I was inspired to do something about that – to offer news, information and a platform that focuses on the positive.
GC: What is Heart Beings’ goal?
DL: The purpose of Heart Beings is to create and highlight uplifting stories, offer lessons and tools that can help people smile, laugh, grow, think, engage and follow their heart’s desires.
GC: Who is Heart Beings’ primary audience?
DL: Our audience tends to want more from life than bigger careers and bigger paychecks. They want to pay it forward and connect with like-minded people. They wish to hear about what is going right in the world instead of a steady diet of what’s going wrong.
GC: From your experience, what is the driving factor for finding and accepting happiness?
DL: It’s pretty simple, although I don’t always execute. I work to do what is in my heart, share my time and resources with those in need, surround myself with positive people and aim to be thankful for what I have.
GC: In our fast-paced society, how can we make time to do good?
DL: Schedule it. People often do everything else in life, and if there is time left over, they do a little good. Turn doing good into a routine and time becomes your friend.
GC: What is the most valuable way to give back?
DL: I like to get involved one-on-one. Yes, sometimes I write a check, but more often than not I roll up my sleeves and do something. Whether it’s mentoring a young person or, as I did recently, assembling bikes for needy children in a nearby community. Doing sets a good example for my children.
GC: Are there celebrity supporters of your organization?
DL: We have had the privilege of interviewing some well-known celebrities who found our mission a breath of fresh air. These stars include actress-singer-author Vanessa Williams, plus-size model Tess Holliday, and former boxer-author-entrepreneur George Foreman III.
GC: What defines a charitable person?
DL: Someone who gives their time and their resources. Someone who genuinely cares about others.
GC: When someone wants to become a Heart Being, what is the first step they should take?
DL: Love and accept themselves unconditionally and let their inner light shine.
GC: What is your mantra?
DL: Never give up. Always aim high. Every human deserves respect. And, practice what you preach.
