It has been three years since Ryan Lewis and Macklemore have released a new song, but the ‘Thrift Shop‘ duo have been up to nothing short of pure magic.
This morning Macklemore tweeted a link for their new song ‘Growing Up (Sloane’s Song)‘. The best part? It’s free for download. The song features Brit Award winner Ed Sheeran and discusses the juxtaposition of teaching your children how to grow up while still growing up yourself. The song’s link is accompanied with a short explanation of how it was created, how Macklemore found out his fiancée was pregnant and his unexpected reaction. He shares that you always seem to have an idea of the kind of parent you want to become, but when that moment does come and the pregnancy test comes back positive, you wonder how you’ll do. Will you teach your kids the ‘right’ things? Will you be a good role model? How can you teach someone if you’re still learning?
Songs by Lewis and Macklemore in the past have becomes massive hits such as ‘Thrift Shop‘ and ‘Same Love‘.

The lyrics are essentially a message to his daughter Sloane, born May 29, of this year. He says, “If you put the work in, don’t worry about the praise my love. Don’t try to change the world, find something that you love and do it everyday. Do that for the rest of your life and eventually the world will change. The quickest way to happiness is learning to be selfless. Ask more questions, talk about yourself less. I’ll be patient one more month, you’ll wrap your fingers ’round my thumb. Times are changing I know, but who am I if I’m the person you become if I’m still growing up?”
