Seems that Ryan Gosling has more pride in his name than we originally thought. (Gosling = baby bird) The actor has recently contacted Costco and is attempting to hold them to its long time commitment of selling only free-range eggs. Essentially, he no longer wants the company selling eggs from farms in which chickens are forced to gain weight/produce eggs while housed in very small cages where conditions can be rough.

CEO of Costco, Craig Jelinek, received a letter from Gosling explaining that a video filmed by the Humane Society during an undercover investigation shows the less than favorable situation. Footage shows a multitude of rows containing chickens packed into cages they clearly don’t all fit in. The tiny space holds many dead chickens which haven’t been removed, and this is the area in which the birds eat, sleep and lay the eggs sold at Costco. The senior policy director for the Humane Society, Matt Prescott, explained that Costco made a promise to switch over to only selling free-range eggs about eight years ago, but has yet to make this promise come true. The hope is that, maybe, with a bit of celebrity push, this eight-year-old promise will become a reality and free-range eggs will be the only available eggs at Costco.
